A major fire broke out aorund 8:15 pm in the members enclosure stands of the RWITC Mahalaxmi Race Course in Mumbai.  The entire top level of the over 100 year old stand (a heritage structure) was gutted.  About 8 fire engines and several water tankers responded to the call and got control of the fire around 11 pm.

Ajit Medtia, the 39 year old Oldham-born property tycoon and owner of the Red Lions polo team, whose fairytale life included marriage to Princess Shruti Kumari and playing polo with the future King of England, died last Friday after a critical illness.
