Kingfisher First lifted the Samaira Cup (8 goal) defeating Cavalry (Red) at the Jaipur Polo Ground in New Delhi. 

 

Kingfisher First emerged winners of the Samaira Cup 8 goal polo tournament beating Cavalry (Red) by 6 goals to 5 in the exciting finals played today at the Jaipur Polo Ground. General Deepak Kapoor, PVSM,AVSM,SM,VSM, ADC, Chief of the Army Staff, President Indian Polo Association & Army Polo & Riding Club and Dr Surinder Kapur, Chairman Sona Group gave away the prizes to the players. Bhawani Singh Kalvi was awarded the Most Valuable Player and Romana, owned by Maj (Retd) Adhiraj Singh adjudged the Best Polo Pony for the tournament.
Karishma Kapoor was present at the game in support of her husband.

The stand at the Jaipur Polo Ground was jam packed with huge crowd enjoying the match. Both teams were 8 goals and combined well, displaying their stick work and horsemanship. Lt Col Shailendra Singh opened the account for Cavalry while Simran Shergill opened the account for Kinghfisher First. Maj Navjit Sandhu converted a 60 yard penalty in the 1st chukker. 2nd chukker was in favour of Kingfisher First in which they scored 3 goals while Cavalry (Red) could not score any goal. The score was 4 to 2 in favour of Kingfisher First. In the 3rd chukker both teams scored two goals each. During last chukker Maj Ravi Rathore converted a 40 yard penalty to reduce the margin 5 goals to 6. Final score was 6 goals to 5 in favour of Kingfisher First.

In first semi finals Cavalry (Red) beat ARPC by 8 goals to 3.5. Maj Ravi Rathore scored 6 goals and Capt Jaideep Singh and Capt Sameer Chaudhary added one goal each whereas APRC started with 1/2 goal on handicap and Lt Col GS Pandhar, Dr Tony Singh and Rajesh Sahgal scored one goal each.

The second semi finals was played between Kingfisher First and Cavalry/Sahgal Stud in which Kingfisher First beat Cavalry/Sahgal Stud by 8 goals to 7. Cavalry/Sahgal Stud team started with 2 goals on handicap and Capt Vishal Chauhan scored 3 goals in the 1st chukker while Kingfisher First team scored one goal in the 1st chukker and 3 goals in the 2nd chukker. During the 3rd chukker both teams scored one goal each. In the last chukker Gaurav Sahgal scored one goal for Cavalry/Sahgal Stud whereas Kingfisher First scored 3 goals and won the match. Scorers for Kingfisher First: Simran Shergill (4), Abhimanyu Pathak (1), Sunjay Kapur (1), Maj Adhiraj Singh (1), Lt Col GS Pandher scored one goal who replaced Abhimanyu Pathak.

In the first match Cavalry (Red) beat Cavalry/Sahgal Stud 10 goals to 6.5. Maj Ravi Rathore and Capt Vishal Chauhan scored 2 goal each in the 1st chukker. In the 2nd chukker Maj Ravi Rathore twice. During 3rd chukker both teams scored 3 goals each. In the last chukker Cavalry (Red) scored 3 whereas Cavalry/Sahgal Stud scored one goal.
Scores for Cavalry (Red): Maj Ravi Rathore (6), Capt Sameer Chaudhary (3), Angad Singh (1).
Scorers for Cavalry/Sahgal Stud: Col JS Virk,VSM** (3), Capt Vishal Chauhan (3) and started with 1/2 goal on handicap.

In the second match Kingfisher First beat APRC 6 goals to 3.5. Simran opened the account for Kingfisher First and added 3 more goals and the other scorers were Maj Adhiraj Singh and Abhimanyu Pathak they scored one goal each. APRC team started with ½ goal and Lt Col GS Pandher scored 3 goals.
