61 Cavalry beat
Jaipur Polo Company to win the Emaar MGF SMS Gold Vase (8 goal)
played at the Jaipur polo ground, New Delhi.
The stands at the Jaipur Polo Ground was jam packed with huge crowd enjoying the
match throughout the evening. Both teams were combined well and displayed their
skilled stick work and horsemanship. 61 Cavalry was 7 goal team and started with
1/2 goal on handicap. Despite their best efforts both teams could not score any
goal in the 1st chukker but Lt Col Atul Gupta scored 1st field goal for 61
Cavalry while Manupal Godara opened the account for JPC in the 2nd chukker. In
the 3rd chukker 61 Cavalry scored 3 goals while JPC scored 2 goals. In the last
chukker both teams came forward with their fresh strength of ponies but JPC not
score any goal while 61 Cavalry scored 2 goals to increased their lead 6.5 to 3.
Maj Navjit Sandhu awarded the Most Valuable Player and Chandini, owned by Mr
Varun Sharma and ridden by Mr Manupal Godara was adjudged the Best Polo Pony of
the match.

The 1st semi finals was played between 61 Cavalry and Kingfisher
First. Both teams were combined well and played superbly. 61
Cavalry was 7 goal team and started with 1/2 goal on handicap
and Maj Navjit Sandhu scored 2 goals to put pressure on their
opponents. In the 2nd chukker Kingfisher First scored 2 goals to
reduced the margin 2 to 2 ½ but during 3rd chukker Kingfisher
First could not score any goal whereas 61 Cavalry scored 2 goals
and took their lead 4.5 to 2. In the last chukker both teams
scored one goal each. The final score was 5.5 to 3 in favour of
61 Cavalry.

Scorers for Kingfisher First: Angad Kalaan (2), Angad Singh (1).
The 2nd semi final played between JPC and APRC/Sahgal Stud was
closely contested affair. Both teams combined well. APRC/Sahgal
stud scored 3 goals in the 1st chukker and one goal in 2nd
chukker while Manupal Godara converted two 40 yard penalty in
1st chukker and 2nd chukker and Varun Sharma added one more goal
in 2nd chukker for JPC. The score was 4 to 3 in favour of APRC/Sahgal
Stud. In the 3rd chukker Varun Sharma again scored a goal and
equalized the score. In the last chukker JPC scored 2 goals to
increase their lead but during last minutes Abhimanyu Pathak
converted a 40 yard penalty to reduce the margin. Finals score
was 6 to 5 in favour of JPC.

The 1st match of the day was played between Kingfisher First and
APRC/Sahgal Stud. Both teams were 8 goals each but the match
turned one sided affair. Kingfisher First scored 3 goals in the
1st chukker and 6 goals in the 2nd chukker to take comfortable
lead. APRC/Sahgal Stud could not score any goal in the 1st and
2nd chukker but scored 2 goals in the 3rd chukker to reduce the
margin. The 4th chukker was goal less.

Deepankar Sharma (2).
Scorers for APRC/Sahgal Stud: Lokendra Singh (2).
Second match played between Jaipur Polo Company (JPC) and 61
Cavalry. Manupal Godara scored 2 goals in the 1st chukker while
61 Cavalry scored 2 goals in the 2nd chukker who starts with 1/2
goal on handicap. The score was 2.5 to 2. In the 3rd chukker
Manupal Godara again scored a goal for JPC and increased the
lead. In the last chukker Manupal Godara once again scored a
goal to increase their lead 4 to 2.5 but Maj Navjit Sandhu
scored a goal for 61 Cavalry and reduced the margin 3.5 to 4.
